Cost And Scope

How much does cabinet painting cost for an average kitchen?

Most Ontario kitchens land between about $2,500 and $5,500 in 2026. Smaller kitchens can start near $1,500 and large or two-tone kitchens run from $6,000 to $9,000 and beyond. By the piece, cabinet painting sits around $130 to $250 a door. Those are market ranges, and the written quote is the number that applies here.

Is painting cheaper than refacing or replacing the cabinets?

Considerably. Refacing across Ontario runs roughly $3,000 to $10,000, and full replacement opens near $15,000 and climbs past $40,000 once counters and installation are added. Cabinet painting leaves the boxes and the layout alone, and those are what cost the most to change.

Does cabinet painting include the cabinet interiors?

Only when the quote says so. Interiors roughly double the sprayed surface area and are rarely seen with the doors closed, so plenty of owners leave them. Either way the quote carries it as a line of its own.

Materials And Finish

Will cabinet painting chip around the handles?

Not the way a brushed finish does. Chipping concentrates at the handles and the cutlery drawer because those are the high-wear zones, and it happens when the film is too thick, too soft, or used before it cured. Sprayed thin coats in a hard coating, given their cure time, hold those edges.

Does cabinet painting work on laminate and melamine?

Yes, with a waterborne bonding primer and three or four days of adhesion time built into the schedule. Ordinary primer has nothing to grip on a cured plastic face. The one material that cannot be saved is thermofoil that has already lifted, because paint will not re-bond vinyl.

What is the difference between dry and cured cabinet painting?

Dry means it can be touched. Cured means the film has reached full hardness. A waterborne alkyd enamel handles gently after a day, takes normal use in about seven days, and reaches full hardness nearer thirty. A two-component polyurethane gets there inside a day.

Timing And Disruption

Do the cabinets have to be emptied before cabinet painting?

The contents of any cabinet being opened up need to come out, and the counters need to be clear. Upper cabinets that are not being touched can stay loaded. We say which cabinets need emptying at the visit so nothing is packed up unnecessarily.

Can cabinet painting be done in January?

Yes, and winter is a good time for it. Doors are sprayed in a heated shop rather than in the house, and the on-site work happens in a room that is already being kept at room temperature. The one thing winter changes is indoor humidity, which is why five-piece doors are acclimatised before spraying.

How much disruption does on-site cabinet painting cause?

The contained days are the disruptive ones, and there are usually only one to three of them. During those days the kitchen is sealed behind plastic with extraction running. Every other day of the job the kitchen works normally, with the open boxes serving as shelving.

Service Area And Aftercare

Is cabinet painting available in Brooklin and the rural hamlets?

Yes. Brooklin, Ashburn, Myrtle and Myrtle Station are part of Whitby and are covered on the same terms as the rest of the town. The service also runs west into Ajax and Pickering and north to Uxbridge and Port Perry.

What happens if a door is damaged during cabinet painting?

It is replaced and sprayed to match at our cost. Doors are numbered, wrapped and carried on a padded cart for exactly this reason, and the work is insured.

Can the same colour be matched again in five years?

Yes, provided the product and the colour formula were recorded, which they are on every quote. A replacement door years later can then be sprayed in the same system and the same sheen rather than guessed at.
