A Cabinet Painting Company Built Around One Trade
Whitby Cabinet Painting does one thing. Kitchens, islands, vanities, pantries, built-ins and condo kitchens across this town and the towns west and north of it get prepped, primed and sprayed, and nothing else fills the calendar. A general painter fits cabinets between two exterior jobs. A cabinet painting company sets up for doors every week and keeps the booth running for them.
Insurance covers the work on every kitchen. That is the only badge on this site, because the rest of what matters cannot be printed on a logo. It shows up in whether the doors were degreased before they were sanded, whether the primer suited the substrate, and whether the coats were thin enough to cure properly.
How A Cabinet Painting Job Is Actually Run From Day To Day
Doors and drawer fronts come off first and are numbered on the hinge side, with hinges bagged by location so every door returns to the opening it was hung in. Boxes are degreased with a solvent cleaner, because water-based cleaners leave behind cooking film and wax, and that is what makes paint let go later.
Sanding follows, to roughly 220 grit, with dents filled and gaps caulked. Primer is picked by material rather than by habit. Shellac blocks tannin on oak and cherry, a waterborne bonding primer grips melamine, laminate and intact thermofoil, and a standard bonding primer handles maple, poplar and MDF.
Doors are sprayed flat in a shop under filtered air. Boxes and frames are sprayed on site behind sealed containment. Two or three topcoats go on either way, sanded lightly between coats, in either a waterborne alkyd enamel or a two-component polyurethane. The full list of cabinet painting services sets out which of those suits which room.
What We Will Say About Cabinet Painting Even When It Loses The Job
Some kitchens should not be painted. Thermofoil that has already lifted will not hold a coating no matter what primer goes under it, and the honest answer is a replacement door or a stripped core. That material has its own page.
Some kitchens are better left as wood. Walnut, cherry and white oak with figure worth seeing usually look better restained than painted, and refinishing is the route for those. Swollen particleboard, water-damaged boxes and failed carcasses get turned down rather than coated over.
Oak is the other conversation. Grain filling adds a day or two and real cost, and plenty of owners prefer to keep the texture. The choice belongs to the owner, but it gets made at the visit with the price attached, not halfway through the cabinet painting when the primer is already on.
How We Work
One trade only
Cabinet painting is the only work done here. Doors are prepped, primed and sprayed every week, and nothing else fills the calendar. That focus shows in the degreasing, the primer choice and the thin coats.
Plain advice at the visit
Some kitchens should not be painted. Lifted thermofoil, swollen particleboard and wood with figure worth restaining all get plain advice at the visit, even when that advice costs us the job.
Everything on one page
The quote gives the door count, drawer front count, substrate, primer, coat schedule, topcoat and price. Interiors, crown moulding, a second colour and hardware each get their own line. The number holds unless the scope changes.
